Waterfall, Tuscany 2001

Print #255: Waterfall, Tuscany

This seemingly untouched nature paradise near Marmore (about 7 km from Terni, Italy) in fact is man made. The waterfall has been created by the ancient Romans and can still be visited and enjoyed. With the only difference that today the stream of water is controlled by a powerstation. To prevent this tourist attraction from loosing attention the water gate will be opened for one hour each day to feed the falls. With this, the tourist board can also control the visitor stream. The photograph however was taken at minimum water level, which creates a much more interesting mood.
